SEHO PROMISES SAFE, CLEAN AND POLLUTION - FREE ENVIRONMENT

The standard of living of most Nigerians and Africans alike, is a very serious cause for concern for environmental and health experts. Promoting safely environment and healthy living of people is usually tasking for most non – governmental organization in Africa due to low funding process of awareness programmes.

Save Environment & Health Organisation, SEHO, non profitable, non governmental organization, based in Nigeria, is an independent leading National Development Organisation that promotes environmental practices and healthy living of people in Nigeria and Africa.

With its vision,“ to promote an environment without hazards, while promoting good environment and good health for all,”Dr. George Akume Dajo - Former Governor, Benue State, Currently, a serving Senator and the Minority Leader at the Upper chamber and the patron of the Organization, SEHO is poised at creating a pollution – free environment in Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.

In the light of the above, SEHO, is embarking on an environment – based campaign, to sensitize the public on the need to live in a pollution – free environment.
SEHO, leading by example , has began an intensive campaign on the street which houses its company on Oduyemi Street in Ikeja, Lagos State. In its effort, the NGO has started an enlightenment campaign to let the public wake up to their responsibility of cleaning their immediate environment so as to avoid degradation.
Speaking to National Daily,MrAzubikeNwankenta, SEHO’s Legal Adviser and Environmental expert, said that when they came on board, he noticed that the street was filthy and he thought they should start from clearing the gutter and packing the rubbles instead of leaving them by the side of the gutter because if rain comes, it will push everything back to the gutter. ‘The environmental condition of any community is the primary responsibility of the Local Government Council, there must be waste management ethics put in place at all times.’ he opined.

Nwankenta however disparaged the poor attitude of people who throw things into gutter, ranging from pure water sachets, used recharge cards, nylon bags and so many other wastes. He said when these wastes are swept away by the rain, they block canals and other water openings which block the smooth flow of water to the sea. According to him, this is one of the causes of flood we are experiencing in Lagos, Ibadan, Ogun and some areas of Benue State.

The primary focus of every NGO is the creation of, and engaging in awareness campaign and promotion of best practice in activities likely to cause or create Environmental and Health hazards. This can be achieved by bringing people together to exchange knowledge and skills, established strategies, build on inputs/capabilities, campaign/promote stakeholders’ commitment to best practices on environmental and health matters. This will result in a safe environment which will ensure a maximum safety standards enjoyed by all.

Nwankenta pointed out that the mission of SEHO is to promote and create awareness by bringing the people together to fight all kinds of environmental hazards, disease and poverty. His words, “People and environment is our primary target, and by using knowledge, skills, experience and collaboration as our most powerful tool, and by working with other related bodies on health and environmental matters, the environment would be free of health hazards.”

SEHO understands the art of solving environmental and health problems by using people, knowledge, ideas, skills, commitment, enthusiasm and professional standing around the world. To achieve this aim, SEHO, which is in the culture of creating awareness for environmental health hazards recruits volunteers between the ages of 18 and 75 years of diverse standing professions and expertise who live in the heart of villages and communities across Nigeria and African countries.
